At its core, the program is simple. Two young women are allocated to each participating Embassy or Mission to experience a day in a life of a diplomat. The schedule for the day differs between each mission, but each includes three key components: a meeting with the Ambassador, an overview and tour of the mission, and an activity that meaningfully engages with and contributes to the work of the mission. Examples of this from prior years include working lunches with the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), roundtable discussions with different diplomatic sessions, media interviews, event planning, and discussions around national priorities or interests.

The program has three key goals

• Facilitate cross-cultural mutual knowledge exchange while directly exposing young women to the world of diplomacy

• Expose diplomatic missions to a wider audience in the community and help them make a positive social impact by empowering women

• Place young women in situations where they are empowered to make, influence, or inform a decision within the Embassy, directly developing their leadership skills

We have been incredibly successful in achieving these goals with positive testimonials from both participants and diplomats. Participants have gone on to gain employment in organisations like DFAT and the World Bank as well as secure internships at the diplomatic missions they completed the program in. GRTW has become the go-to on youth engagement with multiple diplomatic missions reaching out for assistance in creating youth networks and internships. Our organisation has been recognised for the impact of our program, including receiving a Hän Honour from the Government of Finland for promotion of diversity and equality.
